PASMA Training PASMA PROFESSIONAL TRAINING The Work at Height Regulations 2005, require that the assembly, dismantling or alteration of Mobile Access Towers should only be undertaken by a competent person, or if being trained, under the supervision of a competent person. A competent person is a person who can demonstrate that they have sufficient professional or technical training, knowledge, actual experience, and authority* to enable them to:-
*Note: “authority” here means delegated authority to the individual by his employer to carry out a certain function or duty · To know and understand the specific legal duties under the Work at Height Regulations which apply to them as an individual · To understand who controls their activity and the lines of communication to use · To understand the principles of fall protection that the Regulations require to be used · To be able to recognise safe and unsafe situations / activities · To understand how to deal with the hazards associated with the task allocated to them · To have adequate training in the correct use and limitations of any work equipment allocated to them for the task · To understand the need for and the ability to check the adequacy of the safety equipment allocated to them · If that equipment has been issued to them on a personal basis, an understanding of the correct procedure for storage, maintenance and inspection · To understand safe procedures of work and state the correct procedure for the task, the emergency (including rescue) procedures in place for the work and their role in it · To know the procedure for reporting any defects, hazards or unsafe procedures they detect The training courses are based on a format and content agreed by all PASMA members and draws upon their collective, first-hand experience. Widely recognised and recommended by safety professionals, it provides successful delegates who pass a written and practical test with a competency certificate and an encapsulated, credit card sized PhotoCard. The Course content, instructors and training premises are subject to a rigorous assessment to ensure compliance with PASMA standards. After approval, all Registered Training Centres are subject to an ongoing audit regime conducted by Regional Training Scheme Auditors to ensure that they continue to meet the high standards demanded by PASMA. Introduction to Mobile Access Towers A One-day course, it is designed to instruct a maximum of 12 delegates. For details of PASMA Training Members click here: _____________________________________________________________________________________ THE PASMA ADVANCED COURSE MODULE 1 - (CHIMNEY SCAFFOLDS) COVERS PASMA ADVANCED COURSE MODULE 1 - MODULE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE Course content: covers the safe assembly, use, dismantling, inspection and reporting of roof scaffolds. These range from small units to give access to chimneys or dormer windows on private houses, to a unit using single width frames giving 5m x 5m walk-round access. A one-day course, it is designed to instruct a maximum of 8 delegates. Successful candidates receive a certificate and ID card. For details of PASMA training members, please click here: TRAINING MEMBERS_____________________________________________________________________________________ THE PASMA ADVANCED COURSE MODULE 2 - (CANTILEVER ACCESS TOWERS) PASMA ADVANCED COURSE MODULE 2 - MODULE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE Course content: covers the safe assembly, use, dismantling, inspection and reporting of cantilever access towers. By the addition of suitable couplers and 25Kg weights it is possible to use standard tower components to produce a cantilever which will allow access to areas which cannot be reached with conventional towers. Cantilevers can be built on the long or short side of towers. Instruction is given on counterweighted, ground supported and ceiling-supported cantilevers. A one-day course, it is designed to instruct a maximum of 8 delegates. Successful candidates receive a certificate and ID card. TRAINING MEMBERS_____________________________________________________________________________________ PASMA ADVANCED COURSE MODULE 4 - MODULE TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE Course content: covers the safe assembly, use, dismantling, inspection and reporting of aluminium towers with walk-through frames and high clearance base frames on footways and aluminium towers on stairways. This course uses equipment that allows full access underneath the tower, along the footway into the building and from the road onto the footway. TRAINING MEMBERS_____________________________________________________________________________________ PASMA SUPERVISOR'S ACCESS TOWER INSPECTION COURSE Course content: this course, the latest from PASMA, is designed to enable delegates to know and understand current safety legislation, inspect erected towers for faults, accurately check components against the manufacturer's instruction manual and, generally, to be more aware of the potential risks and hazards. Topics covered include component identification, assembly criteria, stability, overloading, adverse weather and working in public places. Delegates are asked to undertake risk assessment exercises on three different scenarios, complete a fault identification task and sit a test paper. Successful delegates receive a course certificate, plus a copy of the new PASMA Code of Practice, an access inspection checklist, the relevant manufacturer's assembly guide and a copy of the course notes.
